PROJECT AREA
The I-74 Mississippi River Bridge project is part of an overall plan to improve the I-74 corridor in the Quad Cities. Construction will take place between Avenue of the Cities in Moline and Middle Road in Bettendorf. The project includes the replacement of the I-74 bridges over the Mississippi River as well as interchange ramp reconfigurations and local roadway improvements.
I-74 Corridor Limits
I-74 MISSISSIPPI RIVER BRIDGE
- Construct a new I-74 Mississippi River Bridge along a new alignment to the east of the existing bridge
- Install roadway and aesthetic lighting on and underneath the bridge structures
- Install a pedestrian/bike path, including a scenic overlook, on the eastbound bridge with connections to paths in Bettendorf and Moline
- Install an elevator in Bettendorf for increased access to connecting paths
MAINLINE
- Reconstruct and improve I-74 to provide six through lanes with additional lanes at select locations
- Shift alignment of I-74 to the east of the existing bridge
DOWNTOWN BETTENDORF
- Maintain the existing Holmes Street/Mississippi Boulevard underpass but close the existing northbound Kimberly Road underpass
- Eliminate existing ramps at State Street and Kimberly Road
- Convert Grant Street in the vicinity of I-74 to a two-way street with three lanes in each direction
MIDDLE ROAD
- Improve interchange design features
U.S. 67 DIAGONAL CONNECTOR
- Reconstruct and improve the interchange with a full-access interchange at Grant Street (U.S. 67)
- Provide new connector roadways to route State Street traffic toward the I-74 interchange ramps at Grant Street
DOWNTOWN MOLINE
- Provide an improved full-access interchange with ramp connections at 7th Avenue/19th Street and at 6th Avenue (Illinois 92 eastbound), and a partial interchange with ramps to and from the north at River Drive
